Objective: to identify and describe the behavior management techniques used in the dental treatment of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Sources of Data: the search for articles was carried out in the electronic databases PubMed and Lilacs, in December 2023. The search was restricted to a period of 10 years (2013 to 2023). The selection of articles involved: 1) reading of titles and abstracts; 2) reading the full texts of the articles included in the previous step. Articles that evaluated or presented at least one management technique used in the dental treatment of children and adolescents with ASD were included. Reviews, letters to the editor, and comments have been deleted. Synthesis of Data: of the total of 91 articles identified, 19 were included. Advanced techniques such as general anaesthesia and sedation were used in nine studies. They were selected mainly when the treatment involved invasive procedures and the patients had limitations in verbal communication or collaboration during the session. Desensitization and image exchange communication system were the most commonly used basic techniques. They were applied to children and adolescents with ASD who communicated verbally or who had few communication limitations and were based on anticipating the steps of patient care. Conclusion: there are few studies on behavior management techniques used in the dental treatment of children and adolescents with ASD. Pharmacological techniques and basic techniques that allowed the anticipation of treatment situations and communication through images were the most frequently investigated techniques.
