Objective: The aim of this case report is to describe the surgical procedure performed for the removal of a Compound Odontoma and to discuss its clinical and radiographic characteristics, surgical planning, and postoperative outcomes. Case report: An 11-year-old female patient visited the dental service for a routine check-up. During the clinical examination, it was observed that the primary tooth
63 had not exfoliated, while the contralateral permanent tooth (13) was fully erupted. A periapical radiograph revealed a radiopaque mass, resembling small teeth, surrounded by a radiolucent halo, suggestive of a compound odontoma, which was preventing the resorption of tooth 63 and the subsequent eruption of tooth 23. A cone beam computed tomography was requested, and following surgical planning, the odontoma was excised. The patient was monitored in the immediate postoperative period to assess healing and recovery of oral functions. Results: The immediate surgical outcomes, assessed seven days after the procedure, were within normal limits, showing primary intention healing, satisfactory oral functional recovery, and no clinical signs of inflammation or infection. Conclusions: The proposed therapeutic approach was considered successful. Furthermore, the importance of routine consultations in this age group is highlighted, to diagnose possible changes in the sequence or chronology of tooth eruption.
